An HSA is a tax-advantaged savings account that works with the HDHP medical plan. Use your HSA funds to pay for eligible healthcare expenses, including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision costs.
Why Consider an HSA?
- Contributions are made pre-tax, reducing your taxable income
- Unused funds roll over year after year
- Your account stays with you, even if you change jobs
- Save for future healthcare expenses, including retirement
- The Specialty Alliance covers account administrative fees
- Balances over $1,000 may be invested in available fund options
Triple Tax Advantage
An HSA offers three key tax benefits:
- Tax-free contributions
- Tax-free investment growth
- Tax-free withdrawals for eligible healthcare expenses
HSA Eligibility
You may be eligible to contribute to an HSA if you:
- Are enrolled in the HDHP
- Are not enrolled in Medicare or other disqualifying coverage

- Do not have a healthcare FSA
For complete eligibility requirements and a list of qualified expenses, visit irs.gov.

FSAs let you set aside pre-tax money from your paycheck to pay for eligible healthcare or dependent care expenses, helping you save on taxes.
Healthcare FSA
Use pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses, including:
- Medical, dental, and prescription copays
- Deductibles
- Eyeglasses and hearing aids
- Eligible over-the-counter medications
Key Features
- Projected 2027 contribution limit: $3,500
- Your full annual election is available on day one.
- Projected rollover limit: $700 of unused funds may carry over to the next plan year.
Dependent Care FSA
Use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualifying dependent care expenses, including:
- Childcare and daycare
- Preschool and nursery school
- Eligible adult caregiving services
Key Features
- Contribute up to $7,500 per year ($3,750 if married and filing separately).
- Funds become available as they are contributed.
- Get reimbursed for eligible expenses throughout the year.
WEX Commuter Benefits
Save money on eligible commuting expenses by using pre-tax dollars to pay for work-related mass transit and parking. Eligible expenses may include bus, train, subway, ferry, vanpool, and parking costs.
Using pre-tax dollars can help reduce your taxable income and make your daily commute more affordable. Depending on your plan, payment options may include a prepaid debit card and online or mobile tools to manage eligible expenses.
Important: Use It or Lose It
Plan your contributions carefully. Unused dependent care FSA funds are forfeited at year-end, and healthcare FSA balances over the allowable rollover amount do not carry forward. Changes to your election are generally only allowed if you experience a qualifying life event.
